Pressure Point Understanding

Pressure points (Tsubos) are areas in the body where nerves and Meridians intersect.

A Meridian is a channel of energy (Ch’i - Chinese, Ki - Japanese), there are 12 Meridians on each side of the body aligne symmetrically. When these areas of the body are manipulated correctly, defending ourselves becomes a great deal easier.

Hidden within the ‘Katas’ are the angles, directions and combinations of pressure points to use for any given attack.
The Katas you will learn are the part of your training you will follow to great depth as you progress through the grades.

There are many myths and misconceptions about Pressure Points and their validity, these are mostly fuelled by people
who have not studied them to great depth. The best way to describe them from a Martial perspective, is to think of them
as target areas, not a fighting system. You still need to know how to fight to reach the targets you are after,
regardless of where you are striking your opponent or what ‘style’ of Art you are practicing.

There are many web sites worldwide freely offering knowledge and explanations of the different points and the theory
that governs them, but this will only teach you the ‘where,’ it is the ‘how’ that makes the difference and for this, you will
need to train with a qualified Instructor to master Kyushojutsu (pressure point striking).
