The Dojo’s of the Ko Bu Kan Ryukyu Karate School were founded in 1994 by Adam Lang, then a 1st Degree Black Belt in the art.
The purpose of the school is to offer the opportunity of training in this ancient Martial Art to people of all ages and backgrounds.

We have Dojo’s in several suburbs of Wellington run by qualified, experienced Instructors that have been members of the school
since beginning as ‘White Belts.’

Students have the opportunity to grade through the coloured belt ranks from White belt to Brown belt and then the levels of Black belt.
As well as the belt grades, senior students have the opportunity to train as Instructors and teach classes to help further their
understanding of the Art.

Since 1994, there have been a number of students who have made it to the rank of Black Belt:

People of all ages, fitness levels and experience are invited to come to a lesson and give it a try.
You’ll never know if you like it unless you turn up. If you have had no training in the Martial Arts before
you can still learn in the class, everyone, including myself had a first lesson once.

The name ‘Ko Bu Kan’ means “School of Ancient Warriors.” This name was given to us by the head
of the United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance in recognition of our roots in Chinese Martial Arts.
